Life of Shastriji :

- In 1926 joined LalaLajpatRai's servants of people society
- He worked for upliftment of Harijans.
- He was third president of "Servents of People Society" and was in the post till his last breath.
- In 1937 he was elected to U.P Legislative Assembly.

 

After Independence :

- He was police and Transport Minister.
- In 1952 he was made Railway Minister.
- In 1957 was made Transport minister and later minister of commerce and industry
- In 1961 he was made home minister.
- In 1964 he was made P.M of India after Nehru's death.

 

Contributions :

- As railway minister he removed wide differnces between first and third class.
- He improved the transportation by putting long railway lines.

 

Contributions as P.M :

- It was in his region that revolution in food production was given utmost importance with his slogan "Jai Jawan Jai Kisan"
- He provided with good seeds to farmers and gave wonder boons to even common farmer.
- With a strong will this iron man tracked the Indo-Pak war and gave them a slapping reply.

 

Jail :      

nine years in jail during freedom struggle.

Death :    January 11, 1966.

 

This little man though had a small and infamous period freedom struggle emerged as a great wall for India after independence. His realistic views and his specialistic reach to a common man made him work in the angle of development of country. He laid a firm foundation to build our nation. He will always hold a place in people's hearts for his contributions.
